Morey-Saint-Denis

Like other villages in the Côtes d’Or, the village of Morey affixes the name of one of its most famous climats, the Clos St. Denis, to its name.  The village includes five Grand Crus (Clos de Tart, Bonnes Mares, Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays) and 20 Premier Crus covering 106 hectares (including 38 ha of Premier Cru).  Most of the wine produced here is red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes but interestingly, compared to the other great villages of the Côtes de Nuits, there is also a small amount of white wine made from the Chardonnay grape made

The appellation forms a bridge, between the masculine wines of Gevrey-Chambertin and the more feminine wines of Chambolle-Musigny.  The vines grow on limestone and clay-limestone soils dating from the Middle

Jurassic: The vineyards are east facing and are at altitudes of 220-270 meters.  The wines have dark, bright ruby and purple colours, aromas of black fruits, violets and cherries that when older turn to notes of game, leather, moss and truffle.  Quite structured and full-bodied, these are wines for aging, usually 10 to 20 years after the vintage.  Morey-Saint-Denis wines go well with game dishes (such as roast pheasant) and beef dishes.
