This year Saskia de Rothschild made us a presentation with Tarot Cards to summarize the character of each of the wines. Carruades de Lafite is the Precocious Child, because of the precocity of its terroir and the precocity of the Merlot grape which makes up 40% of the blend (with Cabernet Sauvignon at 53% , Cabernet Franc at 4% and Petit Verdot at 3%). In these cooler soils, the grapes revealed a lovely acidity and balance which is the hallmark of this wine. This is a really top notch Carruades de Lafite with aromas of ripe strawberries, blackberries and plums; lovely intensity; composed, beautiful plumminess; excellent concentration mid palate, and a good reverberation of lush fruit and tannin in the finish. Dynamic.
