Another great favourite. Veronique Sanders was beaming from ear to ear when we visited her to taste this wine and it soon became clear why. The 2016 is glossy and polished and very expressive. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc is used in this vintage which has classic Graves flavours of blackberry, graphite, cedar and spice. The key to this wine is the beautiful, fine tannic structure which leads to an increasingly powerful impression of richness and depth. A lovely zippy, fresh and pretty finish to end on. A wine with very good aging potential. Drink 2024-2040

Created quite recently, in 1987, Pessac-Léognan is a sub appellation of the Graves, although the region as a whole claims to be the oldest wine region in Bordeaux dating back to the Roman times.
