Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac
1er Grand Cru Classé

Red
Last year, Lafite was my wine of the vintage, and it is hard to imagine this will not being the same in 2020. After the lustrous exuberance of the 2019, the 2020 is more in the classic style of Lafite with great poise, a tad aloof perhaps at first but with so much charm and brilliance lurking behind the aristocratic façade. The nose takes a bit of time to open up and to reveal cassis fruit as it should be, wrapped in leaves of tobacco with shavings of graphite. The palate is precise with Cabernet flavours of small berries of blueberries (there is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend) and then the wine becomes powerful, sinewy and structured with exciting fresh tannins which add such tension to the wine and lead to a very long finish. Elegant, intense, intellectual, it is somewhat hard to capture its brilliance, but this is why we put Lafite on a pedestal. (FM) Max. 6 btls. p.p.
