Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac
1er Grand Cru Classé
0,75
Red
This year’s Lafite reminded us of the great wines made in the decade of the 90s with the old Cabernet Sauvignon from the famous gravel plateau making up 96% of the blend (followed by 3% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot.) This is a great Lafite, sweet and luscious in the nose with the smokey, briary, intense flavours of Cabernet followed by a mineral attack and then an undertow of small berries, cedar, oak and a touch of cassis liqueur. There is power and ripeness here but it is held together with a linear vein of acidity and aristocratic tannins which are typical of Lafite. A wine of great balance and elegance with a touch of smoky autumn fruit lingering on the palate. As Jean-Sébastien Philippe told us: “Lafite 2021 is like a guest who appears at a party, as modest and elegant. By the end of the evening, he is surrounded by all the guests.” A lovely way to sum up the appeal of one of the most successful wines of 2021. Max. 12 btls.
