Chateau Léoville Poyferre

This vintage marks the 100-year anniversary of the Cuvelier family at Léoville Poyferré and it is a fitting celebration wine. Using cold maceration and small amounts of oxygen instead of normal pumping over to preserve the acidity, the wine is ripe and round and fleshy, with classic, restrained aromas of cassis and cedar. The tannins play a role that is more important in the 2020 compared to the 2019 adding freshness and structure to the wine. The palate is very harmonious and smooth, fine and cedary. The structure is taut, the alcohol is balanced and there is an excellent core of dense dark fruit that makes up the juicy and persistent finish. (FM)
