Clos du Château de la Maltroye

The Clos is on top form this year. At first the usual reduction is apparent on the nose (Jean-Pierre Cornut makes his wine with very little exposure to oxygen and a long lees contact) and then the wine opens up to express rich full Chardonnay fruit, butterscotch and minerals, ripe fruit without being heavy and beautiful purity. There is so much going on in the glass that this wine will not reach its enormous potential for a couple of years but this is a tense, virile wine with lots of character and energy.
