Father's Day

Dads: Our true superheroes! Father's Day is yet again just around the corner. Next Sunday, on June 13th, we celebrate these superheroes and show them just how much we love them.

For the occassion we've rounded up five wines from family run wine estates, which will certainly put a smile on your dad's face. These wines come from estates where the family is rooted in the terroir, which adds a certain kind of magic. The passion and winemaking skills being passed on from one generation to another. The new generation working hand in hand with the old. When enjoying these wines, just pause for a moment to think of all the love and family history that have gone into that bottle.

If you would like any help with, or advice on creating your own selection, then please do get in touch and one of our team would be delighted to help you create the perfect gift for your dad!

Tip: Add a personal touch to your wine gift! Enter a message in the Gift Options section in the check-out and we will be happy to add a handwritten card.

Family López Montero

The origins of the López-Montero family in wine-making date back to 1788, when the first of their wineries in Tomelloso was registered. Today the new generation, María Belén, Juan Antonio, Pedro José and Elías, continue the family heritage with Bodegas y Viñedos Verum. The estate represents an exciting wine selection, coming from the best vineyards and terroirs in their property.

Parcela n° 6 - Garnacha Vino de la Tierra de Castilla

At first you might think this wine was light and delicate with its pale red colour and its cherry reflections. But once you smell this gorgeous wine, with scents of peonies, rosehips and cherries, you realise there is more to this wine. Aged for almost a year in clay jars, the tannins are round and silky balanced by spicy, meaty flavours. Lovely freshness and tangy minerality on the finish. I would serve this slightly fresh to appreciate its gorgeous energy and red fruit flavours. Impressive and very gastronomic. Aged in the Verum cellars until it is ready to drink, this is a beautiful wine that can be enjoyed for the next five years.
Domaine Louis Boillot & Fils

Clément Boillot, is now working hand in hand with both his parents, Ghislaine Barthod and Louis Boillot. There is a great deal riding on his shoulders as not only does he have two great domains to vinify, but he is also President of the Chambolle and Vougeot wine syndicate and very attached to the family’s vineyards in Moulin à Vent. Follow-up is assured.

Famille Grivot

By now all Burgundy lovers know that Domaine Grivot has been on a roll over the last few years and although many attribute this to the arrival of daughter Mathilde and her brother Hubert, having known the family for at least 30 years, we know that this is really a collaborative effort with each member playing an essential part in the vineyards and cellars.

Famille Thienpont

We assume you all know that the Thienpont history is interlaced with the wine world so it speaks for itself that we had to feature a family wine. One father & son power duo has to be Alexandre and Guillaume Thienpont. Alexandre, who has continued to improve and build on the Thienpont tradition of winemaking excellence, is now working closely with his son Guillaume whose winemaking studies have taken him all over the world. Guillaume brings a modern vision to Certan and a technical discipline. Together they lifted Vieux Château Certan to its golden age. For centuries, considered among the top châteaux of Pomerol, the wines have received world wide acclaim for their purity, elegance and rich fruit character, typical of the supple and complex style of the Pomerol plateau.

    La Gravette de Certan

This beautiful vintage clearly shows the quality of this second wine from Vieux Château Certan. A blend of 75% Merlot; 18% Cabernet Franc; 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. Thirty per cent of Vieux Château Certan production, particularly its young vines and Cabernets, is destined for La Gravette. Garnet red colour of a rare intensity that attracts with its brightness and depth. The aromas of fresh and ripe fruit, supported by a touch of minerality, reveal both concentration and balance. Very tasty, an excellent first step towards the style characteristic of Vieux Château Certan. One of the best Gravettes produced by Alexandre Thienpont in the 30 years since he created the wine in 1986
Famille Perrin

It is no coincidence Famille Perrin is one of the leading wine growers of the Southern Rhône Valley. Today the family estates are run by the forth and fifth generation. With Jean-Pierre and François leading the estates assisted by both of their children. All nine, they join their forces and ensure the continuation of their unique expertise. Nature and tradition are key to the family and this approach has continued seamlessly over five generations.
