Game & Wine

As we’re now slowly heading from autumn into winter, there is so much to enjoy culinary-wise. With the cooler evenings perking up our taste buds, it’s time to enjoy the pleasures of game, now in season and widely available at your local butcher. It is the time to prepare tasty comfort food paired with a good glass of red wine, before wrapping up in layers and taking a Sunday stroll through pathways of amber leaves.

Depending on the kind of dish, game meats pair well with medium to full bodied reds. Feathered game such as duck, pheasant and pigeon match well with fruitier, lighter wines while furred game such as hare, wild boar and deer match better with rich, full-bodied reds. Each type of game has something in common: their characteristic ‘gamey’ flavour and if you ask us, the overall winner wine wise this season : Red Rhône wines.
