The epitome of summer. With summer aromas of hawthorn flowers, chamomile, freshly cut grass. Fruity but dry, rich in flavour but with a nice acidity that contributes to its freshness. Soft and supple, it goes well with many light dishes and especially with vegetables and summer salads.
0.75l2018 Château BeláRiesling0.75l White€14.25 €11.78Château Belá is an ancient property owned by the aunt of Valeska Müller, the wife of Egon. Situated in southern Slovakia on the banks of the Danube River the estate has a long winemaking history. The Romans planted the first vines and today Riesling grapes are grown on the hills below the castle and vinified by Miroslav Petrech and Egon Müller, two celebrated winemakers from Germany and the Slovak Republic. The 2018 Riesling is very fresh and pure with bold flavours of citrus, honeysuckle and fresh herbs. It is refreshingly light in alcohol and beautifully balanced between sweet, pure aromas and a lively, dry taste.
This wine immediately transports me to the oyster beds of Arcachon, on a sunny terrace with locals playing pétanque beside me. Slurping oysters straigt from the shell, I enjoy a beautiful mineral wine, with delicious fresh citrus fruits and a long aftertaste with a crisp acidity.
0.75lFrancs, Côtes de Bordeaux0.75l White€15.00 €12.40Out of stockFor once the wine was not bottled at the time of the primeurs and will wait until mid-June as there is a great deal of richness here. Made from a blend of 63% Semillon, 21% Sauvignon Blanc and 16% Sauvignon Gris, it is the Semillon which really comes out here with lovely freshness, sweet, grapey flavours and notes of cinnamon, oatmeal and citrus. Creamy, soft and lively, with very good concentration and freshness, nice precision and an appetizingly salty finish.
My summer white is Famille Paquet, Le Mont 2018. This Chardonnay has pleasant notes of minerality that make it taste fresher than the classic Chardonnay. A wine that forms a beautiful marriage with a fresh fish and lobster salad, to enjoy on these warmer days.
0.75l2018 Famille PaquetLe Mont Mâcon-Solutré-Pouilly0.75l White€17.00 €14.05Named after the famous Solutré rock which is visible from a long distance, this vintage is more serious and structured than in the past with lovely purity and a good reverberation of minerality that runs through the wine. The Chardonnay fruit is very fine, linear and precise; there are flavours of yellow apples and William’s pears. The sweetness of the fruit is offset by the wine’s aerian quality. This wine is still young to drink but it is a great success and will drink well from 2020 until 2025.
The summer weather we have been enjoying over the last few weeks has put us all in a holiday mood. To stay out of the ordinary for aperitifs and outdoor dining, I'm opting for a Spanish white wine, more precisely the Atlantic Way, an Albarino which perfectly fits the season. Perfect either as an aperitif or to pair with light meals or even with grilled vegetables and fish on your Ofyr BBQ.
0.75l2018 Atlantic WayRias Baixas D.O.0.75l White€9.50 €7.85This lively and attractive white wine from the region of Galicia located in the far northwest corner of Spain, beautifully reflects the climate in which it is grown. Located just four kilometers from the Atlantic coast, the wine takes its name from the pilgrim route to Compostela which runs through the area. The wine is green tinged in colour, spicy and crispy on the nose with notes of brine, sea grass and fennel. On the palate it is lively and fruity with notes of plums, peaches and crushed stones. The Bascula wines are made by Ed Adams M.W. in collaboration with South African winemaker Bruce Jack. They are beautifully made, modern wines, reflecting the best wine growing regions of Spain.
Wine is an experience, an emotion. If you have been somewhere, you also remember the wine you enjoyed. I myself am in love with Burgundy and its great wines. Deliciously fruity with mineral impressions and spices, this wine is an ideal companion for a nice summer barbecue.
0.75lBourgogne0.75l Red€23.50 €19.42This is one of our most popular red Burgundies at an attractive entry-level price. Coming from parcels around Chassagne and Santenay, this wine is instantly appealing: it has a light crimson colour; a lovely nose with gorgeous aromas of strawberry, fresh jam and a touch of citrus peel. A fruity, lively, honest Pinot Noir with a line of tannin which keeps the wine interesting and alive. Very appetizing and silky.
Even in the warm summer months, I like to enjoy a delicious glass of red wine. However, I prefer an elegant wine with sufficient acidity, energy and crunchy fruit. This Cabernet Franc from the Loire ticks all the boxes. When serving slightly chilled, my mind is transported to Saumur in the Loire region with its beautiful landscape of vineyards and majestic castles. While enjoying this wine I imagine myself walking through the magical, natural surroundings of Château de Parnay. Instant holiday mood guaranteed.
0.75lBlason de Parnay Saumur-Champigny0.75l RedBio€12.60 €10.41Since we launched this wine last year, it has had a great success with our clients who want an organic, elegant red wine from the Loire. The 2018 has a very sweet and fresh nose of hedgerow fruit – sloes, blackberries and cassis. On the attack there is the typical bite of fresh acidity coming from the Cabernet Franc grapes and then the wine opens up on the palate to reveal a silky texture with natural flavours of spice, berries and herbs. Lying just 50 metres above the Loire river this is an easy drinking, lively wine with soft balance and a slightly spicy, fresh finish. A good red wine for fish, game dishes and light cuisine which we like to serve slightly chilled.
