Red
The Jura is known more for its white wines than its reds, but we warn you that if you taste this delicious, quaffable red wine made from Pinot Noir, Trousseau and Poulsard, you will be converted to the red wines. Like many of the Pélican wines, this is fermented in vats before being aged in oak foudres. François starts with Pinot grapes which are always the ripest, then adds Poulsard and then Trousseau to make a blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 35% Trousseau and 5% Poulsard. The delicious fresh fruit comes from the Pinot Noir, the structure from the Trousseau, and the body from the Poulsard. There are spicy, fruity notes in the nose leading to fresh acidity and berried fruit on the palate. François tells us that the extraction here is much softer than in Volnay, with only one third of a remontage per day. The wine finishes with great fruit and energy. So easy to drink with lovely length, serve this slightly chilled to enjoy the fine silky texture as it glides over the palate.
