Clos des Lambrays
- 2013 Domaine des LambraysClos des LambraysGrand Cru 0.75l Red€163.35 €135.00The 2013 vintage was quite complicated because berry ripeness was so uneven. The harvest did not begin until October which was a record over the last 20 years. A very strict berry selection was needed which enabled the estate to do a 100% whole berry fermentation which was a success. The resulting wine is fresh, with lovely spicy, autumn fruit flavours, great purity and lift and a fine, quite structured finish. Winemaker, Thierry Brouin is very pleased with the result and believes that it is on the same level as its illustrious predecessor, the 2012 vintage.
- 2014 Domaine des LambraysClos des LambraysGrand Cru 0.75l Red€175.45 €145.00The almost monopoly of the Clos des Lambrays has a variety of different exposures and soils that are key for the complexity of the wine. At the top, the Clos is composed mainly of marls whereas the bottom clay mixes with limestone. Thierry Brouin makes this wine by traditional methods, punching down rather than pumping over the wine, using the stems when fermenting and aging only in 50% new oak. This, his 36th vintage at the domaine, is one of his favourite and when we went to taste the wine he was grinning from ear to ear. It is a dark, rich wine with lots of ripe, velvety berried fruit. On the palate the wine is very pure, structured, clean and taut; still very young , it will take a while to open up to reveal all its fabulous quality.
