Château Ausone

Saint-Émilion

The jewel of the Vauthier holdings, Ausone towers literally over the village of Saint-Emilion and is once again one of the most beautiful wines of the vintage. Two of Alain’s children, the 11th generation, Edouard and Constance, now work the estate both in the vineyards and in the cellar. They are full of enthusiasm and excitement and say that the clay-limestone terraces were the secret in mastering the climate changes that this vintage threw at them. With the dry and mild September, the grapes reached a beautiful maturity with 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot farmed organically. The wine has a garnet red colour; red fruit, spice and pretty, floral aromas in the nose; a lovely tension, with vibrant tannins, good energy mid-palate and a mineral, precise and elegant finish. This is an excellent Ausone, with a certain allure, and glamour which is perfectly judged. Gorgeous.
