Château Calon Ségur

Saint-Estèphe
3ième Grand Cru Classé

Red
Another contender for wine of the vintage, we are absolutely delighted to have an allocation for the wines of Calon-Ségur which we have followed with admiration for years. Winemaker Vincent Millet says that he has never made a wine like this before and puts the reason down to the quality of the Cabernet Franc (he used all of it in the top wine) and the weather conditions which left enough moisture in the soil and ensure perfect ripening. Made from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot the wine is aged entirely in new oak. Brilliant, dark purple colour; beautiful freshness in the nose with lots of fragrance, balance and precision. On the palate there are flavours of ripe raspberries and cherries unlaid with notes of graphite and minerals. This is a magical wine with great balance, elegance and a fabulous, energetic finish.
