Cheval Blanc is one of the most carefully run estates in Bordeaux and their attention to detail shows in this wine. Each of the 46 parcels which made up the grand vin produced healthy grapes and yields were generous this year at 40 hl/ha with the weather staying stable and quite calm. The quality of the wines was great in that the DNA was very evident for each parcel. The wine has an intense dark colour which is rich and bright. Sweet and bright and fresh on the attack with a nose which is so fruity and so natural and easy to reach. 100% new oak is used here but along with the tannins both are so well absorbed that the structure is beautifully balanced and elegant. There is lovely lift here, and so much going on in flavour that it is incredible that the wine keeps its lightness and energy intact. This is a serious Cheval Blanc which is precise and detailed. A superb effort.
