Château Léoville Las Cases

Saint-Julien
2ième Grand Cru Classé
Primeur
0,75
Red
As usual, this is an impressive wine: the king of Saint-Julien. Cabernet Sauvignon rules supreme here making up 86% of the blend with supporting roles played by the Cabernet Franc for 10% and just 4% of Merlot. There is a dark, intense colour, rich and glossy. The nose is beautiful with fresh small blueberries and cassis fruit, the alcohol is around 13,10°. Everything is in proportion here: the tannins have a lower polyphenol level than usual, and the acidity is beautiful. This wine is spheric, round and exciting and as it moves to the finish, there is a certain raciness here with good energy, beautifully woven tannins, and great persistence. Bravo!

Appellation

We have to admit to having a special fondness for the appellation of St. Julien.  Rather unfairly, there are no first growths here but there are several contenders for a first growth crown, nicknamed the “super seconds” and including Léoville Las Cases and Ducru-Beaucaillou.  We love St. Julien because of ...
