Clos Saint-Martin

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
0,75
Red
A new addition to our selection last year, this is a magnificently located, tiny 1.36-hectare estate facing westwards on the top of the Saint Emilion plateau. Fermented in terra cotta jars and new oak barrels and made from a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the overriding impression here is of precision, purity, and elegance. Deep ruby purple colour, bright and glossy in appearance; lots of high-toned black fruit notes of plums, blueberries and cassis then a reverberation of spice, licorice and a touch of violet. On the palate there is power that comes from the quite intense but ripe tannins and adds good structure to the wine. There is power and classic flavours of limestone, licorice and wild flowers. Intriguing and classy. (FM)
