Florian Thienpont

Thienpont Wine are proud to announce the arrival of another new wine from the Thienpont family. This time it is Château Robin, a domain in the village of Belves, in the heart of the Côtes de Castillon appellation purchased in 2018 by two sets of Thienpont cousins: Clement, Florian and Jan Thienpont, sons of Dominique Thienpont and négociants in St. Cibard, Côtes de Francs and Thomas Heymans in Belgium.

The estate spreads over 13 hectares and is one of the highest points in the commune with an unusual terroir for Castillon: it is a south eastern facing amphitheater with veins of flint and iron. This produces feminine, mineral wines, very different from what is usually found in this appellation. The blend has a large proportion of Merlot (95%) with a touch of (5%) Cabernet Franc. On the slopes there are traces of gravelly soil on a bed of clay-limestone which bring out a lovely freshness in the wine. The domain itself dates back to the 19th century and was listed as a second growth in the 1874 edition of the Féret Bordeaux guide. Since that time, it has had several owners and had fallen into a state of abandon before the Thienponts rescued it. Gradually they are bringing the domain back to its former glory and are in the process of converting it to organic viticulture, while respecting its rich wildlife and biodiversity.
