Alexandre Thienpont situates 2020 in a trilogy with the 2010 and 2016 rather than the last two vintages. Its greatness is due to several factors, he says: “the mix of old vines (1932, 1948, 1959 and 1982), the terroir of gravel and clay and the weather patterns with finally a little bit of savoir faire which adds the precision”. In 2020 the Merlot gives the signature of fresh, sweet and ripe fruit flavours (85%) to the wine while the Cabernet Franc (15%) which was excellent this year gives floral notes, precision and plenty of lift to the wine. Elegant and natural with Alexandre’s classic “cashmere tannins”, there are floral notes of wisteria, violet and peony on the long and powerful finish. VCC 2020 is another stunning wine.
