This wine comes from four different vineyards around the village of Bechtheim and the 2020 vintage is very elegant and fine. It has a sweet perfume of elderflower, quince, apple orchards and lime. In the mouth, you can really taste the crushed limestone and clay soils with their mineral zing. Jochen refers to this wine as being on a Premier Cru level and he makes it gently with quite a lot of grape thinning prior to harvest and in the winemaking some skin contact,  crushing with feet before a light pressing.  Using only natural yeasts and gravity transfers, most of the wine is aged in stainless steel to preserve the freshness, but a small part is aged in wood with a long time on the lees to ensure length and harmony. Pure, precise fruity acidity and a lively, energetic texture, this innovative Riesling from Bechtheim in the Rheinhessen, has wonderful reverberation on the finish.

His approach is simple: as little intervention as possible in transferring the taste from the grape to the bottle. With his wife, Laura, at his side, he has inaugurated a beautiful new winery and ...
